The North Face Expands Nuptse Range with Summit and Pertex Reversible
The North Face launches two new Nuptse jackets, the Summit Nuptse and Pertex Reversible Nuptse, blending alpine performance with street-ready style.
The North Face is marking sixty years of outfitting explorers with two fresh interpretations of its most recognisable jacket. The Nuptse, a staple since 1992, has been reworked into the Summit Nuptse and the Pertex Reversible Nuptse, both of which preserve the silhouette that made the original famous while introducing modern materials and technical refinements. Designed to transition from alpine conditions to city streets, the collection demonstrates how performance wear can cross over into everyday use without losing its functional core.
Summit Nuptse: lightness meets warmth
The Summit Nuptse represents the pinnacle of the line’s evolution. Developed with direct input from The North Face’s athlete team and tested in demanding real-world conditions, it is described by the brand as the lightest and warmest Nuptse to date. It retains the signature colour-blocked aesthetic and introduces a first for the Nuptse family: an insulated hood.
At the heart of the Summit Nuptse is a recycled nylon shell, reinforced with an ultralight woven ripstop fabric that incorporates Spectra yarns in high-wear areas to enhance durability and abrasion resistance. The jacket’s Cloud Down construction is engineered to minimise cold spots and improve packability, while the 800-fill ProDown insulation helps the jacket maintain loft even in damp conditions. A relaxed fit accommodates layering, and practical details include secure zipped hand pockets, two internal drop-in pockets, stretch-knit cuffs with FlashDry technology, and an adjustable, packable hood that fits over a climbing helmet.
Designed for the mountain, worn in the city
While the Summit Nuptse is built to perform in alpine environments, its clean lines and recognisable design make it equally at home on urban streets. The combination of technical fabrics and thoughtful features reflects a growing demand for outerwear that can handle both the elements and the commute.
Pertex Reversible Nuptse: two looks in one
The Pertex Reversible Nuptse takes a different approach, offering two distinct styles in a single garment. One side presents a cleaner, more contemporary appearance, while the other pays tribute to the original Nuptse with oversized baffles and classic colour blocking. This reversibility makes the jacket a versatile option for those who want to shift between a understated look and a bold, heritage-inspired statement.
Built with Pertex Quantum fabric, the jacket is wind resistant and water repellent, supporting the thermal efficiency of its 700-fill recycled down insulation. Additional features include zipped hand pockets, internal hem adjustment on both sides, articulated sleeves for freedom of movement, and elastic fold-over cuffs. Like the Summit Nuptse, it is designed for both mountain use and everyday wear, bridging the gap between technical performance and lifestyle appeal.
A legacy of exploration and innovation
“When the Nuptse jacket first launched in 1992, its innovative construction and reliable protection in extreme conditions quickly made it a sought-after essential on expeditions. It soon achieved icon status in both performance and lifestyle circles around the world,” said Chris Goble, global brand president at The North Face.
“The introduction of two reimagined Nuptse styles not only honors the heritage of the original jacket through its distinctive, beloved design, but also delivers pinnacle performance through innovative product features and modern materials for explorers everywhere, no matter where their journey takes them,” Goble added.
The launch coincides with the brand’s sixtieth anniversary, a milestone that underscores its long-standing commitment to outfitting adventurers. Over the decades, The North Face has evolved from a specialist equipment maker to a global lifestyle brand, and the Nuptse’s journey from expedition essential to streetwear icon mirrors that transformation. The new Summit and Pertex Reversible models continue this trajectory, offering modern explorers – whether they are scaling peaks or navigating city streets – a jacket that is as capable as it is stylish.
The Nuptse collection is available on The North Face’s website and at select retailers.
