Schiaparelli's New Osaka Boutique Brings Paris to Japan
Schiaparelli opens a boutique-atelier on the sixth floor of Hankyu Osaka, channelling the spirit of 21 Place Vendôme through mirrored rooms and surrealist craft.
A Sixth-Floor Salon in the Heart of Osaka
Schiaparelli is deepening its ties with Japanese clients with the opening of a boutique-atelier inside the Hankyu Osaka department store. Situated on the sixth floor, the space officially welcomed its first visitors on 17 October 2026, marking a further step in the house’s push into the Asian market.
The move places the label within one of the city’s best-known retail destinations, giving it a daily, street-level relationship with a clientele already familiar with its couture heritage. Rather than a conventional shop floor, the new address is conceived as a compact salon where the emphasis falls on intimacy and personal service.
An Apartment in Place of a Store
The interior was devised by creative director Daniel Roseberry in collaboration with the Swedish architectural practice Halleroed. The concept, already used in other Schiaparelli boutiques, transports the atmosphere of the house’s historic salons at 21 Place Vendôme into a Japanese setting. The result reads less like a commercial unit and more like a private residence, where signature craftsmanship and surrealist wit sit side by side.
A carefully chosen material palette holds the scheme together: brushed stainless steel, lacquered wood, mirrored surfaces and sculptural furniture. The brushed steel lends this Osaka branch an identity of its own, while the placement of mirrors sets up a shifting play of reflections across the rooms.
A Journey Through Themed Rooms
The layout unfolds as a sequence of distinct, themed rooms, each dedicated to a particular part of the house’s offer. A boudoir-style space is given over to ready-to-wear, followed by a separate room reserved for leather goods.
At the centre of the boutique, a mirror-clad room is devoted entirely to fine jewellery, allowing the pieces to be examined in an environment built around light and reflection. A private VIP salon has also been included, offering clients a confidential setting for appointments away from the main flow of the store.
Colour, Steel and Reflection
The pairing of brushed steel with lacquered wood gives the rooms a cool, graphic quality, softened by the intimacy of the apartment narrative. Mirrors are used not simply as fittings but as architectural elements, multiplying the sculptural furniture and the collection displays. It is a design language that translates the theatricality of the Paris salons into a more restrained, Japanese register without losing the house’s sense of surprise.
What Is on Show
For the inauguration, the boutique carries the autumn/winter 2026 collection, bringing together the pre-collection and the main line alongside a selection of signature pieces. The assortment includes the Secret, Soufflé and Face bags, the house’s anatomical jewellery and its tailored creations.
That mix reflects the way the label now operates: couture codes expressed through sculptural accessories, fine jewellery and sharply cut ready-to-wear, presented together rather than in separate departments.
A Wider Global Push
The Osaka opening sits within a broader retail strategy. In recent years, Schiaparelli has opened standalone boutiques in cities around the world, with a particular emphasis on the United States. Adding a Japanese boutique-atelier inside a department store gives the brand a different kind of foothold in Asia, one built on personalised service and a smaller, more curated footprint. For Japanese clients, it means easier access to the collection in a setting designed to echo the Maison’s original Paris address.
